Charles Leonard, PharmD, MSCE, FISPE, Associate Professor of Epidemiology, Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA, United States)
Dr. Leonard is a pharmacoepidemiologist with expertise in post-market drug safety and real-world evidence generation. He is Principal Investigator (PI) of a US National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 generating real-world evidence on psychoactive drug interactions. He is Site PI of an NIH R01 investigating drug interactions among nursing home residents. He is Co-Investigator of five additional NIH R01s examining population health effects of drug interactions. Dr. Leonard has presented his work to: audiences at national and international conferences; federal regulators and policymakers at US FDA, Saudi FDA, AHRQ, and CDC; colleagues at research universities and institutions at home and abroad; and to clinical decision support stakeholders at health information technology firms.
In addition to his standing faculty appointment at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Leonard is a(n): US FDA Special Government Employee; Honorary Lecturer at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences; Faculty Mentor in the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Foundation’s Mentored Research Investigator Training program; and ad hoc Grant Reviewer for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
Dr. Leonard currently serves our Society as Co-Founder and Immediate Past Vice Chair of the Environmental Pharmacoepidemiology SIG and as Founder and Past Chair of the Drug-Drug Interaction SIG. He served as a Scientific Core Committee Member from 2016-2022 and Chaired the Newcomer Track from 2017-2020.
