Dr. Joanna Klopotowska leads research line pharmacoinformatics at the Department of Medical Informatics of Amsterdam UMC. The two main goals of this research line are: 1) to improve pharmacotherapy outcomes in patients with multimorbidity, and 2) to improve the detection and prevention of ADEs; both by leveraging routinely collected data from EHR systems and information technology. Her research line is well inter-connected on local and (inter)national level with among others: research lines on interoperability of healthcare data, medical AI, and CDSSs within Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam Public Health Institute, Dutch National Intensive Care Evaluation registry and the European Renal Association − European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) registry. She has over 15 years of experience in healthcare from various roles such as hospital pharmacist, EHR system implementer, medical informatics researcher, and health informatics teacher. She currently leads three multicentre national projects (ZonMW and NWO Key Technology grants) and one Amsterdam UMC Innovation project, all involving reuse of routinely collected data, machine learning, and clinical decision support systems with an aim to improve patient safety.
