John is a pharmacist [B.Sc. (Pharm); MPharm] with experience working in both hospital and community settings. He is a current SPHeRE and Irish Research Council Government of Ireland PhD candidate based in the School of Population Health, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. John’s PhD research is focused on the Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics of Drug-Drug Interactions in the Older Community-Dwelling Population, using longitudinal observational data linked with national pharmacy refill claims data. His PhD supervisors are Prof Kathleen E. Bennett and Dr Caitriona Cahir.
John’s research interests include pharmacoepidemiology, post-authorisation safety studies, and the use of causal inference methods to obtain valid effect estimates from observational real-world data. He is currently collaborating with European research colleagues to examine the prevalence of severe drug-drug interactions in older community-dwellers across Ireland, Italy, and Spain. John is the current Vice Chair of the ISPE Drug-Drug Interaction special interest group.
