Nicolas Thurin is a pharmacist, who was trained in research at the University of Bordeaux where he got a Master degree in Pharmaco-epidemiology and Pharmacovigilance, completed by a PhD in Pharmaco-epidemiology under the direction of Pr. Nicholas Moore and Dr. Matijn Schuemie.
During his studies, Nicolas Thurin worked at the Hospital General Plaza de la Salud (Dominican Republic), in collaboration with the Dominican Ministry of Health to implement a Pharmacovigilance System. He was also a visiting research student at the University of Montreal under the direction of Pr. Yola Moride.
His main research interests include the optimization and standardization of information for the assessment of health technologies, in particular drugs, in real-world settings. Nicolas Thurin has worked on the implementation of common data models and the execution of federated analyses relying on the French Nationwide Healthcare databases (Sytème Nationale des Données de Santé - SNDS), with a particular interest in the identification and validation of complex conditions. He works in several therapeutic areas: oncology, rheumatology, and more recently COVID and vaccines.
Nicolas Thurin is currently a scientific officer of the BPE platform (CIC1401). He designs and coordinates real-world studies in collaboration with private or public, French or international partners. He has been a member of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) since 2015 and a collaborator of the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI). He also continues to practice in community pharmacy.
