Mufaddal Mahesri, MD, MPH is a Research Scientist in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. After receiving his medical degree from Ziauddin University, Dr. Mahesri completed his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Boston University School of Public Health.
As an experienced researcher, Dr. Mahesri has worked extensively to assess the comparative safety, effectiveness, and utilization of medications across a broad range of therapeutic areas and patient populations, using health insurance claims and electronic health record data. He is actively involved in studies investigating clinical outcomes and therapeutics among patient populations with limited curative options such as those with Sickle cell disease and Dementia. Other research interests for Dr. Mahesri include conducting studies to assess utilization and trends of drugs over time, medication adherence among patients with chronic diseases, safety and use of antibiotics and antipsychotic drugs.
Dr. Mahesri has also applied novel epidemiologic and statistical methods to identify predictors of medication adherence in claims and electronic health record data as well as conducted studies to assess long-term costs among patients with chronic diseases. His research method development work focuses on evaluating the reproducibility and robustness of real-world evidence from large healthcare databases and implementing advanced statistical methods to further prediction analytics using insurance claims data.
