Currently, she serves as a Research Officer in the Medicines Intelligence Research Program at UNSW Sydney, Australia. She is a certified psychiatrist and MD in Japan, holding a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a specialization in Health Economic Evaluation from UNSW Sydney, and a Master of Bioethics (MBEth) from the University of Sydney. Dr. Araki also worked as a Psychiatric Registrar with ACT and NSW Health for 3 years and served as Assistant Medical Director at Kumamoto City, a federally designated city in Japan.
In her current role, Dr. Araki contributes to the NHMRC-funded TIMESPAN project, a collaborative research effort between Australia and the EU focused on investigating cardiometabolic conditions in individuals with ADHD using routinely collected healthcare data, including administrative dispensing claims and hospital records.
Dr. Araki's diverse background in two culturally and socially diverse countries, combined with her dual master’s degrees, equips her to analyze the complex relationships between clinical characteristics, medicine, health services and systems, as well as cultural, social, behavioral and socio-economic factors. She is transitioning from clinical role to academic research and her overarching goal is to improve safety, quality and effectiveness of medicine use for people with psychiatric conditions and to guide decision-making regarding psychiatric medicine use across their lifetime.
