Naomi Cruz is a PhD candidate in the Health Systems and Policy concentration at the Rutgers School of Public Health. Her doctoral research centers on mental health and health disparities with a particular focus on adolescent suicide prevention. She also has a strong interest in pharmacoepidemiology and the intersection of mental health, substance use, and health services research. Some of Naomi's recent and ongoing projects include analyzing national trends in benzodiazepine prescribing by provider type among children and adults, assessing temporal trends in adolescents’ emergency department visits for suicidal thoughts and behaviors before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, evaluating racial/ethnic disparities in self-reported suicidal ideation and suicide attempts, and developing a training for physicians on identifying and addressing suicide risks in individuals with autism. Naomi received her undergraduate degree in psychology and public health from Columbia University in 2021. She is a current fellow at the Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development and a 2024-2025 Howard Leventhal Scholar at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research.
