Emma Tillyer is a current PhD candidate at University College London (UCL) studying Pharmacoepidemiology under the supervision of Dr. Ruth Brauer. Emma has a key interest in women’s health research, with a particular emphasis on conditions arising during menopause and postmenopause, their treatments, and associated health outcomes. Her PhD work is focused on understanding the prescribing trends of opioids for chronic noncancer pain in menopausal / postmenopausal women in the UK as well as better quantifying the potential health outcomes risks of using these medications chronically in this population. Prior to starting her PhD, Emma studied Health Sciences at Boston University, with a particular interest in epidemiology. During her undergraduate studies, Emma interned in the R&D Project Management group at Merck, the Vasculitis Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Rutgers Cancer Institute. Emma looks forward to advancing women’s health research utilising insights derived from real-world electronic (RWE) healthcare data.
