Thijs Giezen (1982) obtained his PharmD from Utrecht University in 2006. Thereafter, he started a part-time PhD project at the same university, department of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology. This resulted in a thesis with the title �Risk Management of Biologicals: a Regulatory and Clinical Perspective�. The PhD project was combined with a position as a pharmacovigilance assessor at the Medicines Evaluation Board in the Netherlands. During his PhD project Thijs successfully obtained a MSc degree in epidemiology at Utrecht University. In 2009 he started as a hospital pharmacist trainee in the Medical Spectrum Twente, Enschede. From 2014 onwards he holds a position as a registered hospital pharmacist and from July 2019 he acts as director of Pharmacy at the Foundation Pharmacy for Hospitals, as of January 2024 the Spaarne Gasthuis, in Haarlem/ Hoofddorp. Thijs is currently a member of the Central Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects in The Netherlands, used to be a member of the Biosimilar Working Party of the EMA, was an external assessor at the MEB and is involved in the supervision of several PhD projects at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, division of Pharmacoepidemiologicy and Clinical Pharmacology. His research focuses on the use of Real-World Data regarding clinical and regulatory aspects of biologicals.
