Associate Professor Hazel Clothier (PhD, MAppEpi, MScIDEpi, DipTM, FIBMS, FAIDH, CHIA) is an infectious disease epidemiologist specializing in post-licensure vaccine safety surveillance, currently Epidemiology Lead of the Epi-Informatics Group, Centre for Health Analytics and Surveillance Manager for Victoria’s vaccine safety service SAEFVIC, at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Victoria in Australia.
Hazel leads cross-disciplinary research developing novel signal investigation methodologies—notably Australia’s first vaccine-specific data-linkage platform Vaccine Safety Health Link—and contributing to establishment of a Learning Health System VaxPulse dedicated to addressing social-listening indicated vaccine safety concerns with transparently communicated, epidemiologically-informed, signal investigation outcomes to uphold community confidence in immunization.
A/Prof Clothier’s work has informed national policy by providing crucial insights into adverse events of special interest and contributing intelligence on the safety profile of multiple vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccines. She collaborates nationally as an associate investigator in the AusVaxSafety Adverse Event of Special Interest Program of Research to enhance our understanding of the long-term outcomes of serious adverse events following immunization and provides epidemiological expertise to the Global Vaccine Data Network™ multinational collaboration conducting globally coordinated epidemiological studies on vaccine safety and effectiveness.
