Clinical Pharmacology Researcher
Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, Spain
My name is Monica Sabate Gallego. I am a medical doctor, specializing in clinical pharmacology. Since 2000 I have been a staff physician in the Clinical Pharmacology Service at University Hospital Vall d'Hebron (HUVH) in Barcelona and an associated professor at the “Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB)”.
I did my medical degree at the UAB, and specialized in clinical pharmacology from 1996-2000 at HUVH. In 2002 I obtained a master’s in Pharmacoepidemiology (UAB), and in 2015 I obtained my PhD.
Since 2000 my work at HUVH, has mainly focused on the field of pharmacoepidemiology. From 2020 I have been the person in charge of this area in our department. I carry out part of my activity by participating in several research networks, among others the VHIR research group, EU PE&PV Research Network, and VAC4EU. The main projects carried out have been related to the use of new oral anticoagulants and their adverse effects, the use of retinoids in women of childbearing age, and the genetic study of patients who have received the COVID-19 vaccine and have had any adverse effects. I am also in charge of pharmacovigilance and response to therapeutic consultations of some hospital services such as oncology, rheumatology, and hepatology. In addition, I tutor residents and I am responsible for their training in pharmacoepidemiology. As an associate lecturer at the UAB, my teaching work is based on undergraduate training in nursing and medicine, postgraduate training in pharmacoepidemiology in the master's degree in pharmacology, and also, in the direction of several doctoral theses related to pharmacoepidemiology.
As part of my professional activity, I am very interested in consolidating and increasing my knowledge in methodology applied to pharmacoepidemiology.
