Background: Spontaneous reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is key for the post-marketing monitoring of the safety of medicines. Many ADRs, however, go unreported. A mobile app may increase ADR reporting.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate healthcare professionals’ (HCPs) and the public’s interest in using a mobile app for ADR reporting in Indonesia.

Methods: A cross-sectional paper-based survey study was conducted between July-September 2023 among HCPs and the public in Bandung, Indonesia. HCPs were recruited via hospitals and community healthcare, and members of the public were reached by research assistants in the community. The survey consisted of demographic questions, questions about ADR reporting, and questions about interest in using a mobile app for ADR reporting. Descriptive statistics are presented.

Results: In total, 290 HCPs were included (66% women, 58% aged between 24-24 years) of whom 35% were pharmacists, 33% were physicians, 21% were nurses, and 11% had another profession. Almost all HCPs were interested to use a mobile app for ADR reporting (96%). The number of respondents included from the public was 419 (61% women, 49% aged between >34-44 years, 88% with a bachelor’s degree or higher). Most were interested to use a mobile app for ADR reporting (87%) and almost all would download such an app (97%).

Conclusions: HPCs and the public in Indonesia showed large interest in a mobile app for ADR reporting. Further studies are needed to assess actual use and the impact on ADR reporting.
